Doctor visit today

Abbie and I visited the doctor today for what will now be the weekly checkup until delivery. Everything is going well according to our doctor...Dr. Hawes. So far we both really like him. He has an excellent bedside manner, and he has been more than happy to answer all of our questions. We heard the baby's heartbeat. I think it has gotten slower since we first heard it, and that makes sense. Dr. Hawes did a Strep B test which we will get the results from next week. He said Abbie was not dilated any more than last exam two weeks ago, and also that he thought the head was turned down.

Abbie has gained more weight, but is still looking fantastic! Her belly button is almost gone, but her tummy is smooth as can be. You can feel the tightness when she has contractions (for those of you who don't know, you actually have contractions for quite some time before the real labor begins). Of course, you can also both see and feel the baby move around. It is unbelievable!

We discussed names a bit more tonight, although mostly boys names. We seem to have a bit more difficulty selecting those. Anyway...the beat goes on! Any day now!

Babies everywhere!

Last night Abbie showed me pictures of Katie and Eduard's new baby. They are friends that live in California (Katie and Abbie went to high school together). The baby is so cute! His name is Elias Eduardo Magos. This morning my sister-in-law Sam told me that our friend Heather and her husband Carlos had their baby too! His name is Dylan, and I look forward to seeing those pictures too! Plus, that baby came 3 weeks early, so it really hits home that this could happen to us any day now! It is very exciting!

Other people are getting antsy too!

It seems that other people are equally antsy for the baby to come. Tonight I spoke to my Grandfather and one of my best friends, and inevitably, both were anxious to hear about the progress of the baby! As if the baby was sticking halfway out, taking a peek, and waiting for the right time! No! it doesn't quite work like that!! We will now when it happens, and not a moment before. That is part of the experience, and a part that I must say has its positives and negatives.

The baby room is coming along. Today we received the changing table and the dresser, although the table was in the wrong color and will have to be exchanged. I also put the dimmer in the baby room this afternoon. It's coming together!

I wonder if the baby was listening to me get his/her room ready today....hmmm....

My Baby Journey

Since I am totally new to blogging, this blog was started a little late in my journey towards fatherhood. Here we are, on this second day of March in the year 2005, and I am watching the calendar as a 5 year old would while waiting for his birthday! We are down to the final month of the pregnancy, and I am getting very excited for the new little person that will soon be in my life. I can't know what I am going to feel when the time finally arrives, but I can say that I already love my child unconditionally. With the first two months of 2005 already in my rearview mirror, I know that the time left before the baby comes is really quite minimal. Things are ready to change drastically, which does cause me some anxiety, but I know in my heart that these changes are all going to make my life better.
