Our first night out

Tonight marked a landmark event! While I had already spent a long night without my baby, this was Abbie's first time out without the baby for more than a couple of hours! We attended our good friends Doug & Julia's rehearsal dinner. After having sushi for the first time in months earlier in the week, Abbie had her first glass of wine since July! We had a wonderful time, and enjoyed being out with our friends. Of course, you never stop thinking about your baby, and even though Zoey was in good hands with grandma, we were still wondering how she was doing in the back of our heads. All in all, it was good for us to get out for a night, and what better way to do it then at the Boathouse for the celebration of our friends' wedding! Tomorrow Zoey will attend her first wedding, and will be dressed to stun!

Zoey and Sushi

We took Zoey out to our favorite Sushi restaurant the other night. She was disappointed to learn she could not yet partake in the deliciousness, but I assured her she would get the chance someday. I then proceeded to teach her what everything was on the table. I also showed her my technique for eating it.

Abbie was also very happy to finally eat some raw fish for the first time in nearly a year. Yum yum!

Growth spurt

We got our first issue of Parents Magazine yesterday. I was reading it to Zoey this morning and I found an article about growth spurts. It said that during the first year of life, babies grow more than they do the rest of their lives. Furthermore, the growth comes in spurts rather than gradually. These spurts also usually come at predictable intervals. One of those is around 6 weeks, which is where Zoey is! The article agreed with her current situation as well...the baby can eat up to 16 times in a day (I wish I could do that), become agitated easily, etc. Zoey has been eating like a champ, and she has had some days of complete orneriness. Still she has been smiling like crazy, and loves to look around and learn about her environment many other times. She really likes things that give her motion, like her swing, her bouncy ball, the car, even the airplane.

It is incredible how quickly she is growing, and that you can actually see the change from day to day. As much as I can get frustrated from a long night without sleep, it is all worth it when I wake up early on a Sunday morning and spend some time alone with my daughter who then smiles at me on and off for ten minutes! At that point, there is no place on earth I would rather be.
